The manufacturing industry in North America is undergoing its fourth evolution into a high-technology, digitalized, and data-driven industry. This Industry 4.0 period began long before the COVID-19 pandemic affected global society but has been accelerated in response to many of the challenges associated with it. In this report, we examine and explore the current manufacturing industry in North America and the challenges and opportunities it faces as adoption of Industry 4.0 thinking, tools, standards, and processes becomes more widespread.

Manufacturers Excellence Luncheon
Aug 10, 2023 | 11:30am - 1:00pm

Featuring Keynote Speaker:

Dave Korda
Plant Manager

David Korda is the Operations Director at Nokian Tyres' North American production factory in Dayton, Tennessee. For more than three years, he has overseen tire production at the award-winning campus, helping facilitate expansion from a 60-member launch team in 2020 to four shifts of 24/7 production and approximately 475 employees in 2023. Under his leadership, Nokian Tyres is currently working to double production at the Dayton Factory to four million tires per year by 2024.
Prior to leading operations in Dayton, David served as Construction Manager at the LEED v4 Silver-certified production campus. He is an engineer by trade, with nearly two decades of experience in facility operations and design. David has a master’s degree in structural engineering from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and lives in West Knoxville with his family.
Achieving Sustainable Growth:
Empowering the Team from the Ground Up
In the past five years, Nokian Tyres’ production factory in Dayton, Tennessee has gone from a muddy construction site to one of the most advanced, sustainable tire production campuses in the world. Now, the Finnish inventor of the winter tire is in the process of doubling capacity to as many as four million all-season and all-weather tires per year right here in Southeast Tennessee. Operations Director David Korda helped oversee the factory’s construction, and now he manages its operations. How have he and fellow leaders literally built the factory team from the ground up? And what lessons has Nokian Tyres learned that apply to other organizations pursuing transformational changes?
