Building Connections and Advancing Manufacturing Innovation

Manufacturing is evolving at an unprecedented pace. Digital technologies, data intelligence, and smart systems are reshaping how factories operate—creating new opportunities, but also new pressures to adapt quickly and effectively.

The Smart Factory Institute exists to help manufacturers navigate this shift with confidence. We bridge the gap between traditional operations and intelligent, resilient factories by connecting companies with proven technology partners, hands-on solutions, and workforce certification programs that make Industry 4.0 practical, scalable, and sustainable.

Who We Are

The Smart Factory Institute is the only institute of its kind in the United States focused exclusively on advancing Industry 4.0 adoption. As part of the global Smart Factory Institute network under the Deutsche Messe Technology Academy, we play a key role in accelerating the transfer of cutting-edge manufacturing knowledge, tools, and workforce skills across industries and borders.

This international network spans Germany, the United States, Morocco, and South Africa, with a fifth location planned in Brazil by 2027—further strengthening a growing global ecosystem of smart manufacturing innovation.

Our mission is straightforward: connect manufacturers with real-world solutions, provide hands-on evaluation and testing, and certify workforces so organizations can adopt new technologies with confidence and clarity.

Partner Spotlight: Phoenix Contact

Phoenix Contact brings more than a century of expertise in industrial electrical and automation technologies to the Smart Factory Institute campus. With over 22,000 employees and operations in more than 100 countries, Phoenix Contact delivers comprehensive solutions spanning controllers, edge computing, industrial communications, connector systems, and scalable automation platforms.

Through advanced training programs and hands-on labs at the Institute, Phoenix Contact helps technicians and engineers master next-generation control ecosystems, modern programming methodologies, and scalable architectures that reduce downtime and enable smarter, more resilient operations. Their commitment to sustainable electrification—embodied in the “All Electric Society” vision—also supports manufacturers in planning for a cleaner, more efficient future.

Partner Spotlight: FocustApps

FocustApps specializes in transforming raw factory data into actionable intelligence. Their custom applications, analytics platforms, and AI-driven tools help manufacturers simplify operations, surface the right insights, and accelerate digital transformation.

At the Smart Factory Institute, FocustApps supports manufacturers in prototyping dashboards, building data pipelines, and testing AI-enabled workflows—empowering frontline teams with accessible insights while delivering measurable gains in throughput, quality, and decision-making.

What a Technology Partnership Means

Becoming a technology partner with the Smart Factory Institute means joining a collaborative ecosystem where innovation, education, and real-world implementation converge. Partners actively shape the future of manufacturing by sharing expertise, providing access to their technologies, and supporting manufacturers as they adopt advanced solutions with reduced risk.

Technology partners engage directly with manufacturers, industry leaders, and workforce development professionals through events, demonstrations, and training programs. This hands-on environment allows partners to showcase solutions in action, collaborate on real-world challenges, and influence how smart manufacturing technologies are evaluated and deployed.

Partnership also opens the door to broader visibility, strategic collaboration, and meaningful connections across a growing global network committed to scaling Industry 4.0 solutions.

For partners, this means influence, exposure, and long-term relationships. For manufacturers, it means faster adoption, lower risk, and a workforce prepared to operate and maintain advanced systems.

Why It Matters

Today, technology is no longer optional in manufacturing. Connected systems, intelligent data, and automation are redefining how factories compete and grow.

By partnering with the Smart Factory Institute, organizations gain more than access to technology—they gain a proven pathway to transformation, supported by hands-on learning environments and a global community of innovators.

Whether the goal is modernizing operations, upskilling teams, or showcasing solutions, technology partnership with the Smart Factory Institute places organizations at the forefront of Industry 4.0—positioned to lead, educate, and drive meaningful impact across the manufacturing landscape.
